Albert II-laan

The Albert II-laan is one of the main arteries connecting the North Station area with the centre of Brussels. In 1992, Wirtz International was commissioned to redesign this major urban boulevard, transforming it into a green promenade.

The design features tree-lined avenues with structured hedging and green spaces that soften the urban landscape. Carefully placed planting creates a rhythm along the boulevard, providing both shade and visual interest for pedestrians.
With a surface area of over 30,000 square metres, the project demonstrates how landscape architecture can transform a traffic-heavy corridor into an inviting public space.

The Albert II-laan remains one of the notable public space interventions in Brussels, balancing the demands of urban infrastructure with the desire for a more liveable and green city environment.
