University of Antwerp – Wilrijk Campus

The University of Antwerp Wilrijk Campus is an enormous 668,000 square metre landscape designed between 1970 and 1980. It represents one of the earliest and largest Wirtz International projects.

The campus landscape organises a vast suburban site into a coherent academic environment with tree-lined avenues, formal courtyards, and expansive green spaces. The design creates a parklike setting that gives the university a distinctive identity.
Mature plantings developed over decades have given the campus a rich, established character. The formal structure provides clear wayfinding while the generous green spaces create a campus that feels open and welcoming.

The Wilrijk Campus is a landmark in Belgian landscape architecture, demonstrating how the Wirtz approach can work at an institutional scale to create environments of lasting quality.
