Wirtz International wins international competition Bötzow Brauerei Berlin
Wirtz International wins international competition Bötzow Brauerei Berlin: the company Otto Bock in Duderstadt (Germany) organised this invited competition to find ideas to rethink the open spaces of the site of the Bötzow Brewery in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. This impressive complex of industrial buildings is in need of a new destination and has been bought by Otto Bock GmbH to house their company, manufacturing facilities, as well as a revived beer garden, an art gallery a public swimming pool and gym, masterminded by David Chipperfield Architects in Berlin. The proposal sets the buildings on a green pedestal of terraced hedges, revealing the architecture on top. Between the buildings a central multifunctional gravel square functions as central piazza, accompanied to the sides by opulent Hydrangea shrub masses, that bring colour and life to this formerly industrial site. The former beer garden is restored, overlooking the street from a higher level. Furtheron, the journey between the buildings leads you to a large greenhouse where the clients and their family can try on prostheses in a secluded and relaxed ambience, sheltered from the weather elements.
